It was comissioned by Sokullu, who was the most influential grand vizier at the height of the Ottoman Empire as it dominated over three continents. After the death of the Grand Vizier, he was buried here, following a grand ceremony. After long years of service, Sokullu was stabbed to death in 1579 by a mad man, marking the end of the Expansion Period of the Ottoman Empire. It is simple and solemn in design, with a beutiful tile band of the Fatiha verse of the Koran inside. The marble workmanship of the tombs of the children of Sokullu is also highly refined. It is open to visitors every day, during work hours, except on Monday.
