  • Information about the monument: Manuscripts on his life record that Sinan built the mosque, madrasa, imaret (kitchens for the poor), and caravanserai among the buildings within the Rüstem Pasha Complex. In the Foundation Charter for the Complex, it is also recorded that, in addition to these, there were also other buildings, such as a school, a public double bathhouse, storages, a tannery, and shops, within this complex. Only the mosque, bathhouse, and the caravanserai remain, built during the 1550s. The dome of the Mosque that rises over a rectangular foundation is impressive from the outside as well as the inside. From its completion year, 1552, to recent years when it became surrounded by tall modern buildings, it continued to have the same impressive dominance, overlooking the Tekirdağ harbor. Even though its overall scale is modest, the main facade is covered by a two-row monumental portico; the interior is simple in design but quite effective with its large dome. The interior ornaments have been renewed in 1841, thus do not represent the classical 16th century any more. The main door, the mihrab, and the marble minbar are all classical period creations of well balanced and highly refined art and skill of the period. Due to some exterior details of the transition to the dome, some researchers think that it may have been completed after Sinan's death. Since it is a central mosque, it is always open during the day.
