Information about the monument: Since this mosque is located in the Taşlık District in Edirne, it is popularly known as the Taşlık Mosque; however, its original name is Mahmut Pasha Mosque. Built by Mahmut Pasha, one of the grand visiers of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, probably in the 1470s. Later records show that Sinan rebuilt the building. The Mosque was resored after it was damaged in the 1752 earthquake; it was severely damaged in 1936 and most of the structure was taken down to its foundations in 1942. In 2006, the Directorate of Pious Foundations started another rebuilding within the still standing four walls, to finish in 2007. The construction is carried on in the classical period style of Ottoman architecture.
