Information about the monument: This building defines the historic center of old Ottoman Edirne, together with the Bedesten and the Old Moque in near vicinity. The angle of its north façade shows how it has adapted to existing neighborhood boundaries at the time of its construction. The caravanserai is a wide building with two courtyards. The section with the larger court, today known as the Large Han, included a caravanserai; the smaller court, known as the Small Han or the Camel Han, included lodgings. This building was converted to a hotel, following extensive restoration in 1972. As a result of this work, the Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai has been a recipient of the prestigious Ağa Han Awards for Architecture. To tour the building, just ask for permission at the hotel reception. Usually during winter months, the section with the large court remains closed.
