Information about the monument: Built between 1561 and 1565, the architecture of the Semiz Ali Pasha Mosque has been altered greatly in time, due to later interventions. At the time of the large-scale 19th century restoration work done during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz, its mihrab, minbar, entrance portal, and many of the windows were renewed. At later periods, the style of the windows was altered; the stone masonry and brick walls were covered over with stucco on the outside; thus, the features of classical Ottoman architecture over the facade were lost. Even though built by Sinan, not much is left to remind us of the original classical period.
