Information about the monument: The construction of the mosque was started by Bali Pasha and completed by his wife, Hüma Hatun, after his death. The building has endured many natural disasters throughout its life span and has, thus, lost much of its original magnificence. The most sigficant damage was caused by the 1894 earthquake, when the main dome and the part of the outside portico was destroyed. It was restored in 1935-36 to its present state.
