  • Information about the monument: The Evvel and Sani Madrasas are twin Madrasa buildings that form the southwest boundary of the Complex. Their names - “evvel” and “sani” - mean “first" and "second” in Arabic. The classical courtyard planning of the two madrasas were further enriched with special architectural features developed by Sinan, such as light shafts leading to student rooms, porticos supported on one side by classrooms, and sitting places facing these classrooms. The sides of the buildings facing the Süleymaniye Mosque are two stories high, due to the sloping site. Today, the ground floor spaces are used as restaurants and gift shops. The sections with courtyards that are at a higher level from the shops serve as the Süleymaniye Library. All spaces that are open to public can be visited during work hours.
