  • Information about the monument: It was built in the name of Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, the first Grand Admiral of the Ottoman Empire. It now stands on a corner of the crowded pier square in central Beşiktaş. The tomb has been held in high regard, especially by all seamen after the internment of the Grand Admiral. The Ottoman Navy used to visit the mausoleum and conduct ceremonies and offerings before major expeditions. Today, similarly, the Naval Forces Command still arranges some of its more significant ceremonies in the space between the Tomb and the Barbaros Monument. It has retained its original features. It is open to public twice a year: on July 1st, for the Cabotage Festival, and on April 4th, for the Memorial Day of Naval Martyrs.
